About Me
Hi, I’m Colin. Two things I love: running and people. Because of those things, I really love coaching.
I started out coaching football, moving from junior high up to varsity over an 8-year period. I’ve since moved on to coaching track and field at Byron Center High School (Michigan), where I am the head coach of the Division 1 program as well as a teacher.
Throughout my coaching career I’ve found that, regardless of the sport, anyone can learn Xs and Os. Anyone can write a training plan. What makes the best coaches stand out from the rest is that they care about people first and foremost. The key to making athletes the best they can be is to prepare them both physically AND mentally. I put my all into making my athletes feel valued, and I help them work toward their goals and dreams.
If you choose to be coached by me, you will receive a custom training plan. I won’t give you a cookie-cutter plan from some calculator based on your current race time. You’ll get a completely custom plan based on industry-standard training principles, backed by science, and designed for your short- and long-term goals. You also have the option to add on weekly support, where I can go more in depth about the workouts you are going to perform and adjust things based on your feedback.
My Coaching Philosophy:
There is no "one size fits all" training plan or schedule
Training should be backed by science and research
Continuing education is imperative
Athletes should enjoy what they do
My Qualifications:
12 years experience coaching sports
3 years experience coaching Track and Field
USATF Level 1 Certified
My Best (or Favorite) Races:
2019 Riverbank Run 25K - 1:31:44
The Riverbank Run 25K has it all. Lots of competition, hills, unpredictable spring Michigan weather. I’m very proud of my execution at this race. My Half Marathon PR (1:17:16) came in this race too.2021 Charleviox Marathon - 2:46:03
My best executed marathon to date on one of my favorite courses, running stride for stride with one of my training partners.2018 Striders 10 Mile Classic - 58:04
Good tactics led to 3rd overall on a hilly out and back.2017 Boston Marathon - 2:54:58
Boston is just fun, period. There’s nothing like it.
